Welcome to [community profile] b7friday (originally on LJ as [livejournal.com profile] b7friday)! This is a weekly flash fic community, with prompts given out every Friday, with regular amnesty weeks.

See the Profile for more details, but it's pretty simple: mods post a prompt, members try writing something inspired by said prompt, post the resulting ficlet, and profit! (Or not, of course; this is Blake's 7. It may not end well.) Once every twelve weeks or so, the community has an amnesty week to allow people to catch up.

At the moment, the community is on permanent amnesty, which means we aren't posting new prompts, but we aten't dead either, so please feel free to work your way back through any previous prompts and post the results to the comm.

We will see if there is any current interest in reviving the community, now that it has a new home. If so, we will be very happy to do so!

(If you have any concerns about imported material, one helpful option (if you have a Dreamwidth account) is to claim your Open ID. It's very simple, and once done, gives you the same level of control over your imported comments and posts as with the originals.)

Following up on [livejournal.com profile] vilakins's post, here are some of the ideas suggested so far to possibly revamp the comm a bit. I was going to put them into a poll, but it got a bit fiddly. (Apologies if I missed any; I don't think I did but I'll edit in if so!)

So, thoughts so far:
  • Keep the comm the same, just pimp around places again

Possible Changes:
  • Longer time for writing prompts (e.g. every two or three weeks)
  • Have catch-up week more frequently
  • Have occasional all-prompt amnesty
  • Alter to/have in addition to weekly prompt, occasional comment!fic posts (where there would be an overall theme or free-for-all and then prompts and fills are left in the comments)
  • Allow other types of fanworks as responses to the weekly topic (e.g. art, icons, vids, craft, fanmixes, baking etc.)
  • Drop the word limit.
  • Have banners or buttons as rewards for filling x many weekly prompts etc.
  • Have a prompt suggestion post as a sticky.
  • Take over the internet and force everyone to watch Blake's 7 and write fanfic

Please comment with any other suggestions and your thoughts on those we've had - which you'd like to see, any you really wouldn't!  Whatever most people want to do and [livejournal.com profile] vilakins is okay with, we'll try and see how it goes.

Also welcome: people willing to make art for pimping, or banners, those willing to offer suggestions or start comment fic posts; suggestions for places to pimp the comm on or off LJ.

I thought I'd better post here as well since not all of you subscribe to [livejournal.com profile] b7fic.

Announcing the Blake's 7 crackathon!

I'm running it on [livejournal.com profile] b7fic as that seems a convenient place. The prompts/suggestions post is here.

This community was started five years ago this month, and that's a long time for your two mods to think up topics for each week.

Is anyone interested in taking over the setting of topics? At least two would be best so that you can take turns. That's all you really have to do; I think we've deleted a post and banned a spammer only once or maybe twice, and that's it apart from the weekly topic. We can send the new volunteers a list of past topics if they'd like that, though there's nothing wrong with redoing old ones which would be new to current members.

We are both very pleased that we set it up, and we've had a lot of fun here.

[Edit] We now have [livejournal.com profile] jaxomsride, [livejournal.com profile] kalinda001, [livejournal.com profile] piemancer, and [livejournal.com profile] reapermum--thank you!

BTW I have no plans to leave the comm. :-)

Hip Deep in Heroes is a new Blake's 7 fan fiction archive.

It is completely independent of LJ and is not intended to replace anything. [livejournal.com profile] b7fic will remain, being an excellent way of keeping up with new fiction via your flist. Rather, the new archive is a successor to the Hermit Library which, as several of us have found, is no longer being updated. Hip Deep in Heroes is intended to be a searchable archive to which any B7 fan can upload stories.

  • Authors (once registered under the name they prefer) upload their own stories, and then have control over them. They may edit them and delete them at any time without anyone else's intervention.

  • You can search stories by season, character or a combination of two characters, rating, genre, and story type etc. All of the story's attributes also appear in the automatically generated header. You can also search for stories by author.

  • You can load longer stories in chapters.

  • You can create series of stories, either exclusive to you, or shared by several authors.

  • Readers can leave feedback without having to register.

  • There is an extensive Help which should give you all you need to start uploading your stories.

Have a look at the fiction already there to see how the archive works. Feel free to ask me any questions.

As this is about Blake's 7 fiction and both mods agreed (and have signed up, what's more) I'm cross-posting this here.

Blake's 7 has been taken off the active fandoms list at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van because only two people were regularly reccing stories there. Five of us have signed up to do so already, but we need a few more. It's apparently not that onerous: recommend an on-line story (with a link) once a week for your month and say why you like the story. There are heaps of B7 stories on line. The Hermit Library has an enormous number, but there are other sites too, some of I have listed on my links page.

So, if you've enjoyed on-line B7 stories, tell us about them on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van. You sign up under 'small fandoms' here.

This is Blake's 7 Friday, a weekly short story challenge community. How short? Byatts (50 words), drabbles (100 words), or stories up to 500 words.

Each week, one of the moderators will post a challenge and add it to the memories so that it's easy to find. To see them, click on the 'Topics' link. By the way, you don't have to write the story on a Friday whether local time or GMT; you have all week.

1. Try to aim for stories between 50 and 500 words. Going for multiples of 100 might be fun, but we certainly won't force you.

2. Anything over a PG-13 rating should go behind a cut-tag with a warning, but readers are also responsible for what they choose to read.

3. Longer stories should also go behind a cut-tag (use your own judgement).

4. If you so wish, you can submit more than one story per challenge.

5. You have only a week to answer each challenge. Once the new topic has been posted, time's up!

6. Once each quarter you'll be able to write on any previous topic or topics. These will be listed in the challenge to give people a chance to do ones they missed or to have another go at one. You must say in your post which topic it's for.

7. No flaming.

Moderators: [livejournal.com profile] vilakins and [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2.

Suggestions for challenges are welcome from others by posting comments on the last topic post.
